I need help asap! My poor duck Cruela got hit by a car and has a broken wing. I wrapped it and 3 days later I see this wound with MILLIONS of maggots in it. The wound is where her oil gland is and has spread from there.
I jumped straight into research and bathed her a couple times and got 95% of the maggots out.
I went and bought some Wound Kote and Wonder dust and put it on her wound. I think there are more maggots on her but I can't get every single one out. I put her in the garage with food and water but she's not eating. She hasn't pooped much and Im worried she's going to starve herself. I figured it's because she's tramatized from how many times weve cleaned her but Im checking on her and she still hasn't pooped or eaten. If she doesn't eat tonight she might pass.
Does anyone know what I should do?
Can I feed her myself somehow?
Need answers!

Give your duck some warm sugar water right now. This can revive her by elevating her glucose. It may stimulate her to want to eat. Soft boiled egg or warm cooked oatmeal, or applesauce are tempting foods for sick poultry.

If she still refuses to eat, mix up a wet gruel of raw egg, applesauce, and some Poultry Nutri-drench. Buy it if you don't already have some. It's at most feed stores. Put the mixture into a feeding syringe and slide it into the right side of her beak to avoid her airway. Squeeze a tiny bit at a time into her beak very gently. See the photo below of a chicken being given a solution by syringe.

You do need to get every single maggot off of her or they will eat her flesh. Once all the maggots are gone, flush the wound thoroughly with saline, and then cover all of the injured tissue with a triple antibiotic ointment to keep it moist. You can give her a chewable aspirin (81 grain) twice a day for pain.

Thank you so much! I will go do that now. So much help!

I’m sure she’s not eating because she’s in a great deal of pain. Any way you could take her to a vet? Is she drinking?
I can't take her to a vet now, but I will of she gets in a worse condition. I'm going to try a couple things to get her eating maybe. Shes barely drinking but I'll try and syringe some food for her.

I just gave her some sugar water through a straw because I didn't have a syringe and she resisted but I was able to get some in her mouth, and it worked!! I gave her some peas and she started eating! It's a miracle! Thank you so much! Your a life saver!

Continue to offer her sugar water through tomorrow to be sure she's not suffering from shock. Her appetite should improve. Get some Nutri-drench. It can be a life saver.

Be sure to clean the wound each day faithfully, and keep it moist with the ointment in between. This is crucial for new tissue growth and to keep bacterial under control.

Ok, I will buy some Nutri-Drench tomorrow and keep bathing her to get all the maggots off. I'll put the ointment on the wound after bathing. Thank you again!

My duck Cruela has a wound around her oil gland, yesterday there were millions of maggots in it so I bathed her and got as much as I could out. I bathed her 4 times and got all of them out I'm pretty sure.
Today I gave her a bath and no maggots came out. I think she's maggot free now.
Yesterday after I got all the maggots off I sprayed on Wound Kote and then puffed some Wonder Dust on the wound. Someone told me I should put ointment on the wound but I also have the other products.
Do I just put ointment on the wound?
Or can I put ointment and the other products (Wound Kote, Wonder Dust) I bought for it on?
