hi long story short i have a 2.5 mo old drake with a gi infection of some kind who required antibiotics and tube feeding. My second tube feeding resulted in aspiration his breathing had gurgling and crackling noises after. this was an hour ago. called the emergency general vet they told me to monitor him.
he is panting on inhales and his neck is bent a lil. he is falling asleep with head up
every now and then he sneezes

bill and nare are clear

here is his labored breathing

please please help

How much do you think got down into the lungs, the whole tube, part of it, or did he spit some up and accidentally inhale it?

I think i accidentally overfed and overfilled his crop so i think he probably swallowed a good bit seeing as how he still hasnt worked it out :(

All you can do is wait and see how he does, the good thing is he’s still alive, so at this point infection may be the biggest worry.

thank you! He is already being treated with antibiotics, doxycycline, for an unknown infection thats giving him green diarrhea and making him not want to eat (hence the feeding) should i ask the vet about extending the antibiotic treatment to combat respiratory infection?

How much longer will he be on the Doxy? I would only add more antibiotics if he sounds like he’s getting a lung infection, to long on antibiotics can predispose them to getting Aspergillosis.

@casportpony he’s pretty listless and sleepy. an incredibly faint almost gurgling sound comes and goes every now and then sounds like very faint snot bubbles which i assume is fluid that i got into his lungs. Tried to take him back to the emergency vet but halfway there they said there is nothing more they can really do for him as they are not specialists. He’s so sleepy im just so scared he’s going to slip away
