My hen had 6 chicks 3 days ago- 4 survived as of yesterday. We went out to barn to check on them today after work and the hen was out of the box and the barn was very hot. One of the chicks was struggling. We opened up the space to bring in fresh air and got the chicks out of the nesting boxes.
The struggling chick can't stand (to be fair, I haven't seen the chicks stand at all yet so I don't know what state she was in before today), she was opening her mouth for food and I used a syringe to give her water with sugar and some raw egg yolk. I have since brought her inside. She is making peep sounds, but won't open open her eyes now and won't stand or eat.
I can't decide if I should return her to her mother or leave her inside. Please help. I don't know if she was fine yesterday and then overheated today- any suggestions would be helpful.
