My chicks hatched yesterday and one is really struggling. It can't stand on its own and can't eat or drink without any help. Seems to just sleep with its head in between its feet? When it does try to move it just falls on its back and can't move.? Also it's doing alot of clicking noises when it breathes? Help me x
Also it's struggles to hold their head up.
Atm it's really noisy with the cherps lol x

Did it struggle to break out the shell?

Yeah is did struggle to get out it was pipped for 3 days and I think mum helped as within 10 mins after me checking there was a chick just lying there! And the shell was in tiny pieces? X

When they are this small there is only so much you can do. Make sure it's warm enough, you can give electrolites to keep it hydrated (sav-a-chick is widely available), just use a shallow spoon and dip the beak in, or I will hold them so the beak is resting in a crease of my finger and drip the solution into the crease. About every 20 minutes give as much as it will take that way. You can give a bit of raw egg yolk mixed in water the same way. Hatching can be exhausting, so it may take some time for it to recover, so you do as much support as you can and hope for the best. Hydration is more important than food in the beginning. I will sometimes take a weak chick and carry them in a neckerchief around my neck so they are resting in front just below my throat, kind of a hammock, and talk and hum to them as I go about my day, it seems to comfort them. A lot of loud cheeping is a sign of distress. Sometimes it just isn't meant to be and they don't make it either being too weak or having an unknown underlying problem. :hugs

It may not make it to be honest with you. But all you can do now is try to care for it and remain hopeful. They are stronger than what we have them for

I am dipping their beak in the water and also added some vitamins to the water ever 15-20 mins. The chick is very floppy and can't hold their head or stand up. Since giving the chick the vit water the chick is more fidgety and trying to get around. The chick does a shuffle on its bum to moving around slightly. Still falling on its back. But it's defo got more life than before.
If the chick was to die when could that be? Just because my kids adore them and I can prepare them for the worsed xx

Sounds like a bit of improvement, so that's a good sign. Even baby steps are good. Time will tell, and there isn't any way to predict really. Hopefully it will continue to gain strength and improve. Hope it makes it!

Well the chick is still alive! Been giving them multivitamin water ever 20-30 mins but still sleepy and no strength to hold their head up. She/he Seems to be a little bit more fidgety and trying to get up but can't. He/she is currently asleep in my fluffy sock! Hahah xx
