I walked into our barn yesterday where we had a hen brooding and noticed that there were some broken eggs and next to that a dead chick just outside the nest on the ground, then I look a bit further and see another chick laying about 10 feet away, barely breathing, eyes closed. I picked it up off the ground and tickled its feet thinking maybe somehow its legs were broken. But he could move them just fine, just not able to sit up on them. He died moments later in my hand. So I inspected the rest of the ones that had hatched, and there was one more that seemed lame and lethargic. I was able to get him to take some water and he seemed a bit better off than the other too so I put him under the heat lamp and all he would do is lay there. Every once and awhile he would try to get up and would balance on his knees for a moment and then fall over, he died in the middle of the night sometime. The other 5 are healthy and find and hopping around, eating and drinking. Now one more hatched today and he is also acting lethargic and lame and not keeping his eyes open. What could be causing this? Is there anything I can do?
