Help! Baby chick's eyelid won't open

I got these Wednesday from Atwoods in the pullet bin....everything was fine until this morning i was checking them all out and i noticed this baby chick's eyelids were opening...i messed with one side and it opened up but the other side, there is a small bloody spot on edge of it but it seems like it won't open. i need another set of hands to hold the head still and see if we can pull it open.

Before you just pull the lid open try rinsing with saline or a dab of neosporin just for lubercation. the others might have pecked it is the reason your seeing a little spot of blood.

I don't have chickens yet, but try a warm moist towel to soften whatever gunk is holding it shut. Or a saline wash. I would think forcing it open may damage the eye.

ok, update, i have taken out a warm wet corner of a wash cloth and washed it off and it opened up. i was checking the other birds and out of 9 birds, 4 of them had goopy shut eyes, either one or other but only that one had both eyes gooped shut.

is this normal or do i have a disease going around....do i need to treat with anything? i will be going out every hour or so and checking on them and cleansing as needed......anything else i need to do? or look out for?

I don't think goopy eyes are normal for healthy chicks, is Atwoods a feed store? if so I'd go there or call them, and pick up some Terramycin eye ointment or something along that line, feed store should be able to help you, how about their nostrils any dripping or clogs? they have heat? also might want to get some electrolytes and add a little to their water.

no, no goop, no pus, no nothing, the eyes look normal except on one of them the slight small reddish brown possible bloody spot....i don't see anything that would make them stick together.....i am stumped!
