Hi guys, I have a group of 2-3 week old assorted top hats that we got from the feed store. I noticed yesterday that 2of them had slightly pasty bums, I figured I could deal with it this afternoon, now those 2 are dead. They were all perfectly fine before that. Today there are 8 more with dirty butts, I tried washing the poop off, but it's like washing off cement. So I filled a plastic tote with 3 inches of warm water and a heat lamp ontop and let them soak for 10 minutes. I finally got them cleaned and put them in a clean dry tote with a towel and a lamp, but one of them is making a crackeling noise when it breathes.

I added some electrolytes to their water and put a heat pad under the cool side of their tote, trying to keep him warm and hydrated. I offered some bugs and treats along with the medicated scratch, does this sound ok, is there anything else I can do?

I just found this thread. How did it go with those babies?
I have had to wash pasty butt twice and I used Dawn dish soap and warm running water. I twist the poo back and forth between my thumb and forefinger, under the running water and after, say 30 seconds it usually comes off. Sometimes I have to do it a 2nd time. I have a towel or paper towels handy and dry it's little behind and feet. Usually, you cannot wash the butt without getting the feet wet. Then I will either put it under a heat lamp or finish drying it with a blow dryer. It has turned out ok every time so far. Knocking on wood.
