HELP!!! Befriending a duck/geese.

I have a Chinese goose she was the only that Hatched so i raised her with a baby chick they where best friends the chick got to close to my dog today and they killed her so now my goose has been Hollering for her … my moms goose (same kind of goose ) just hatched some baby’s off but they are to lil right now to leave there mom so Do I need to get a Nether goose to put with her or try a nether chick of the same size …. I am heartbroken for my girl because they was so close

Once the goslings get around 2-3 weeks old start introducing your goose to the gosling. Geese have a built-in maternal instinct and usually love babies. In the mean time give your goose a mirror that is safe [no sharp edges or can be knocked over], and hopefully she'll enjoy looking at herself until the gosling can safely be put with her, And protect your birds from your dogs. As you now know it only takes a sec for things to go bad.

I did not know this about geese One more reason that I absolutely adore geese so much Is this only when they don't have goslings already?

Geese love all babies but gosling are their main love. I've heard of a goose pair adopting other goslings from another pair. Not sure how that would go with the parents though. My geese adopted 2 goslings that weren't theirs. I introduced daily from 2 days on until they were 3 weeks old then the geese got them for good. It was the most precious thing watching my pair and the goslings bonding with each other. The night the geese finally got the 2 goslings in their house was so precious Mama goose went and laid down and the 2 goslings went over and laid beside her while adopted dad stood watch.
My gander never watched where he was going so I had to wait to give them the goslings until they were too big for Sam to accidentally step on which he did with a duckling and that broke my heart.
