help!!! BLIND PULLET NAMED HICKUP PLEASE HELP!!!!

I give my chicks warm oatmeal every morning. I make up a big batch that way I can microwave some every morning. They LOVE it. I buy the quick oats and add a little sugar. You don't want to add any salt because it is bad for chickens. When I reheat in the microwave I add a little milk so it's not so dry.
Good luck with her.

I saw on this show this couple had a blind dog so they strapped a bell to the other dog and the blind dog would follow the sound of the bell around

Favorite snacks around here are eggs - scrambled or hard boiled and chopped - plain, low fat yogurt, bread OMG! Lil' Bit loves bread. Mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and oatmeal. I give oatmeal served warm late in the evening before they go to roost, to help keep them warm.

Being as how Hickup is a Sebright, I think you'd need to take extra precautions with her during the wintertime. If she'll stay inside a warm coop with a buddy then fine, but if not you may need to bring her in. I would suggest her buddy be someone from her own flock she gets along well with. Bringing in an outsider would take more time, for quarantine and introductions, etc.
My flock really seems to understand that something is "different" about Lil' Bit and they are all very patient with her. She gets away with lots of things they wouldn't tolerate from any of the others. My roo especially is very protective of her. When he beak feeds her she often misses and pecks him in the eye, the face, the head. He never flinches and holds very still until her beak connects with the treat he's offering. He's a very good roo.
To us humans having a handicap is a major issue. To animals it's just the hand that nature dealt them and they learn to cope very well.

My Delaware cross, Lucy was the most active, cheerful, curious hen I had . Then one of the mean girls attacked her and pecked her eye and blinded her in one eye. The mean girls went to other homes via Craigslist. Lucy is pitiful now but we love her everyday. She walks into things, has trouble finding food, can't get up to roost, etc. I make sure she eats out of my hand at mealtime and treat time. When she gets lost or frantic we call her name and she comes to where we are. I installed a little roost for her about 12" off the floor and every night I go down and put her on it. She will eventually get up by herself. I just re-arranged the interior of the coop and it threw her off. She likes to follow me around the yard and talk to me and she loves to be cuddled. I guess it could be worse. We still have her and she makes me smile everyday.

Hope your little one is ok.

Mary
