I live in a the same area as my in-laws who also have chickens, and found it easier to seperate the two sets of chickens. Well, my 5 month old Blue Cochin Roo was just protecting his flock (in their pen as on of the in-law's chickens was running around outside). He was sparring with that hen through the kennel, and managed to get his beak caught in the chicken wire. Minimal bleeding that I can see, but on one side there is about a 1/4 inch tear that starts at the back of his top part of beak, and goes up at a slight angle. He seems okay, maybe a little stressed from the ordeal. I gave him some bread and he does seem to be able to eat it. After he recovered somewhat he did strut his stuff, and alert the girls that he found some bread on the ground (that I threw). Will this heal by itself? It does not appear to be shifted or anything.
