My broody is on day 20. Yesterday an egg was cracked and the albumin intact (not pipped-dented in instead of out). Today, it was smashed and the albumin is torn in three places. There is still veining in the albumin and it seems the break is mostly around the chick's back. The chick is still moving but the egg is also bloody. Do I have any way to help him or is it best to pray and let momma sort it out? I don't have an incubator.

without an incubator i dont think there is anything to be done. sometimes you can stop the bleeding with a bit of pressure on the vein if you can see it but i do wonder if you wrapped it in a paper towel if she would leave it alone. just a thought, never did it.

The egg isn't bleeding anymore. But the membrane seemed to be getting shrinking, I pulled the loose membrane and shell away enough to see that he'd absorbed all his yolk, I know it probably wasn't best, but he had no chance if he got smothered by the membrane, he's under a heat lamp and by my thermometer he's at 95 degrees. He's still breathing and moving, but I don't think he's even aware he's half hatched.

if you got him at 95 keep him there ! need wet towels over him though. make sure they stay moist until he hopefully hatches. warm water sometimes i use a spray bottle but thats in a bator.

It seems his back might is broken poor cherub bring him out of the smashed egg (eggs are for feeding and keeping it safe the egg can't do that any more) dont put it back under the mother she will literally crush the poor baby, grab alot of feathers from the bottom of the hen house, get a shoe box make a nest out of the feathers and put it in the shoe box, get a light it can be any light as long as it produces some type of heat even a light bulb would do something, put the baby in the nest and under the light, and make this meal. Two teaspoons of crushed layers pellets, 1/2 teaspoon of hot water and a 1 teaspoon of egg white mix it all together and feed him that by opening his mouth and shoving it in he is most likely malnourished I know you want to just let the mother take care of him but just remember its mothers a stupid chicken and you have all the resources to save him

I had one of those chicks and if came around after 2 days and is still alive so good luck:/
