Hi! I’m hoping someone can help me! We’re novices when it comes to chicken injuries. Friday I found my cream legbar (bantam I think) on the floor with the back of her head pecked raw. Not sure if she fell and was then attacked as a weakling, or if it was a rooster or bigger hen. She couldn’t move and on further inspection it appeared to be her right leg. No bones are extruding, nothing swollen that I can tell. She doesn’t seem to mind me touching her legs. I’ve been feeding her and giving her water in a carrier for the past few days and she is doing very well. Good appetite, and trying to be more upright.
I read about splinting the legs and putting her in a sling. Would that work without seeing an obvious break? It seems to be higher maybe at the top joint, or even the hip? Or dislocated? She also won’t fully balance on the other leg so I’m not sure if that one is completely unharmed either.
I’ve been spraying her head with vetericyn and it seems to be scabbing up and healing.
Thoughts on what I should do? Is there hope for her? She seems to have so much life left. Maybe not to rejoin my flock but at least be put into a bantam flock somewhere? Thanks.
