Hi! I’m hoping someone can help me! We’re novices when it comes to chicken injuries. Friday I found my cream legbar (bantam I think) on the floor with the back of her head pecked raw. Not sure if she fell and was then attacked as a weakling, or if it was a rooster or bigger hen. She couldn’t move and on further inspection it appeared to be her right leg. No bones are extruding, nothing swollen that I can tell. She doesn’t seem to mind me touching her legs. I’ve been feeding her and giving her water in a carrier for the past few days and she is doing very well. Good appetite, and trying to be more upright.
I read about splinting the legs and putting her in a sling. Would that work without seeing an obvious break? It seems to be higher maybe at the top joint, or even the hip? Or dislocated? She also won’t fully balance on the other leg so I’m not sure if that one is completely unharmed either.
I’ve been spraying her head with vetericyn and it seems to be scabbing up and healing.
Thoughts on what I should do? Is there hope for her? She seems to have so much life left. Maybe not to rejoin my flock but at least be put into a bantam flock somewhere? Thanks.

I think she's suffering a Vitamin deficiency.
Do you have any poultry vitamins?

The pecked area can be easily treated, just keep it clean, & moistened with none pain Relieving Triple Antibiotic ointment, or petroleum Jelly. Make sure it has enough dry time before each application of a moistening solution.

It’s possible but her right leg kind of just dangles when you lift her- her toes won’t grip. Would nutridrench work?
Yes, just give her a few drops, or a dribble in her beak, about 3 times a day.

Deficiencies can cause this. But if the vitamin therapy fails, she may have something more sinister going on, like Marek's Disease.

This is the same thing going on with my chicken today!!! Any updates or advice?

Please tell me how you fixed it ? I’m such a newbie. I have seven chickens and have only had them for a few months. Right now I just keep her in the run and she hops around and eats and drinks fine seemingly.

Honestly I’m a beginner too. A friend had another gimpy chicken and took her for me. I think she took her to the vet, which is outside of our financial ability. I read a lot about making slings and braces. But depending on how it’s broken it might need to be seen by a vet.
