Ok. so I had a bantam that was broody, I set her on 8 eggs 14 days ago, I went out this morning on lly to find that she had eaten an egg... it had evidence of a chick in it, She then started to eat another while I was standing right there! It did not have a chick in. she has always had food and water.. I candled the remaining eggs, and could tell that there was a chick in each of them, dead or a live I don't know. Will she continue to eat all the eggs? Has anone experienced this before? I would appreciate Any suggestions. I wish I had in incubator to put the remaining eggs in.

My only guess would be that either she broke an egg accidently and then ate it or that she i slacking some type or vitamin etc.. Possibly try feeding her scrambled eggs once a day and see if that doesnt stop it..

My OEG bantam did that to her eggs on day 19-20.

Made me so mad. She hasn't attempted brooding again, and she hasn't eaten any other eggs. *knockonwood* If you have an incubator, I'd take them away from her. Sorry, it's always such a bummer!

Some of my broody girls have eaten an egg or two. In their case it seems to have been either ones that they accidently broke or ones that the chick had quit and died. They went on to hatch out the remaining eggs and be good mommas. I've read threads where broody hens have went physcho and eaten every egg in the nest, but around here it's always been more of a don't waste the resource and keep the nest clean kind of thing.
