Help broody hen with wry neck!

I have a Broody silkie hen with Wry neck! She hatched 1 chick 2 day's ago but this morning I discovered the Hen now has Wry Neck but other chick hasn't hatched yet! I'm not sure what to do I'm new at this! Please help ..

Glad you could join us here! Sorry to hear about your hen My first thought would be that this a vitamin deficiency that has caused this wry neck. Highly likely as your hen has been broody and will not have been getting quite as much nutrition if she were not.

Polyvisol would be my first suggestion for her (non iron). You may have to help her eat and drink and please be aware you may have to remove the chick and any others that hatch for their safety.

I'm afraid wry neck is not pleasant when they start thrashing around and she could easily injure the chick/s. Also if she is in the stages of thrashing she is unlikely to be able to keep the chicks warm under her.

Scrambled egg and tuna is great for them as it's packed with the vitamins they need even more so when they have wry neck.

The best thing would be to hatch her chicks in an incubator, then into a brooder with heat lamp etc, so she doesn't harm them accidently - thrashing around. I've have not heard of a silkie getting "wry neck " as a broody maybe the stress brought it on. Wry neck, etc. is common in silkies.
