Texas Hill Country!
HI! Due to limited space our pair of call ducks are living with our chickens. I opened the coop this morning to find an egg on the floor. BUT I have a white egg layer that tends to lay her eggs on the floor sometimes. But this egg is different it's shell is smooth and kind of grey-ish tint to it. But it also seems to have a thinner shell so I am not sure if this is a thin-shell chicken egg or a call duck egg... It is about the same size as my medium layer chickens. About the same as my Lakenvelder hen lays. HELP PLEASE! I am really hoping this was her first egg so we can get some together to hatch! I am thinking I may need to move my lakenvelder to be sure of whats going on. I don't have a specific place for the ducks just yet but they will have a new place soon! Any advice or photos would be great!! I am so new to the duck thing!

Sounds like a Call Duck egg. My little girl just started laying and the eggs look and feel different then my chicken eggs. Isn't it EXCITING? Now she lays an egg every other day. The first ones were soft shelled and had to throw them away. Have six in the bator now. What color calls do you have? I have a pastel pair.

we have a pair of self black calls, they are actually my 7 year old daughters. My son is in a chicken 4h group and we got to visit a wonderful breeder named Dan Dykes and he gave each kid their pic of a breeding pair off a list he made well naturally all the chickens where chosen and after it was all done, he said if anyone else wanted a pait left on the list they could have it..directing at the siblings... and she got very excited and said "DUCKS!" can I please have the ducks! ...I had no idea she was so fascinated with ducks! So that is why they are living with our flock of chickens right now lol! This egg we got does seem to have a soft shell... I will probably have to wait and collect her new ones. And YES! we are very EXCITED

my daughter has been waiting a long time for "Sarah" to lay an egg and they are bound to be fertile because "Daffy" had been VERY busy! lol!
