Hello, Im pretty sure my female call duck has vent gleet. At first I thought she was egg bound because I saw her straining to go. But after more research she has all the symptoms of vent gleet: lethargic, smelly white discharge covering her bottom, pooping mucus or green liquid, swollen abdomen and inflamed bottom. I HAD her on enrofloxacin, because I also thought it could be bacterial infection in her gut, however I now know this will not help since vent gleet is fungal, not bacterial. So I stopped giving it to her.
My current treatment now is:
- epson salt baths x2 a day for 30-45 mins.
-clean her bottom with saline rinse
- vetricyn antimicrobial spray
- neosporin only on her bottom, not on her vent
- ibuprofen for pain
So my question is, how do I get her to eat? She’s around 48 hours without food, but she is drinking water. I do have experience with tube feeding with a catheter but never on a call duck, I feel like she is too small for that and would rather not go that route. She is more interested in excessively preening herself (specifically her butt, I don’t know if it’s itchy, but every time I go to clean it she preens for the next 30 mins) I can tell she is very uncomfortable and will not sit at all
anything else I can use to treat her?
The pictures provided are not as bad as it once was 2 days ago, it has gotten better but I’m very concerned since she is not eating and that usually is not a symptom of vent gleet.
