I have a call duckling that finally hatched this a.m. She took a really long time to come out. Her yolk had not fully absorbed and I left her alone to absorb it and get out on her own. This morning she was out but still is extremely wobbly and shaky. Rolls over on her back alot. Her legs and wings shake too. I have tried to keep her propped but she moves around too much. I guess my questions are:
Will she make it?
Is this some sort of vitamin deficiency that I might be able to help?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Sue

For anyone else who has something hatch out with these problems, I have found the Poly-Vi-Sol infant vitamins to do fairly well, as well as offering a drink of water even if they need more time in the hatcher/incubator to dry out. You might not save every one with this kind of problem but I'd bet you'll manage to save at least one. Some of the best show Calls come out this way, I am told. You may have to give some pretty intensive care over a couple of days but it could be worth it; I had one go through this and it is shaping up to be a really nice duck, is outside now and almost fully feathered. This one actually snapped out of it on the third morning when I was about to cull it, so I was glad I gave it the chance and extra work.

Sometimes if I hatch out a weak call duckling, I use vitamins and electrolytes and give it that the first several days.

Sorry to hear she died.
