HELP! CAN CHICKS GET TOO HOT?

I had 27 chicks in a huge box with a 250 watt heat lamp (no thermometer, for 2 days) I think the only thing that saved them was that they could get away from the heat when they wanted to and that they were drinking TONS of water. They did seem to love that heat lamp though( I never saw them panting). They sat under it alot but got up alot to get water too. Finally read that a regular 100 watt bulb will put off heat at around 95 to 100 so I switched to that...put in a thermomemter and yup...right at about 98 (light is approx. 2 and 1/2 feet up from the chicks). They are now in a huge hard plastic wading pool and are doing great.

Are hope your chicks are doing better today.

By the way...could someone please tell me what Contractors paper is? what it looks like? and where to get it? Thanks!

Melissa
