I have 5 Khaki Campbell babies. They are approximately 5 weeks and they have quite a few tail feathers but still have a ton of down. Right now they are in a stock tank in my bedroom without a heat lamp as they were crowding away from it. They have been outside in their coop during sunny days but they are inside now because it’s 50s and raining. They are all between a pound and a pound and half and the mess they make is crazy to keep up with even with cleaning the tank twice a day. We have a very nice coop and run but our overnight temps are dropping to 30s-40s. Could they stay outside overnight with a heat lamp? Are they smart enough to come inside the coop at night next to the heat or would they stay out in the run and freeze? If they can stay out in the coop, what wattage of heat lamp should I use as in the house they are moving away from it, of course it’s 70 degrees in here.

If you can close up the coop so they have to stay inside over night and when it’s raining put a heat lamp in but make sure you get it attached so it doesn’t accidentally fall and cause a fire. At 5 weeks they should be close to being feathered in. They look a lot younger than 5 weeks old.
