Many of you know that last year I was made to get rid of my chickens that I had raised for eggs since 2008. None of my neighbors complained, I am pretty sure it was the HOA of the condos, across an easement from us, though we were never able to confirm who complained. I was so sad, and upset the city even made me dismantle my coop, which I had put a lot of work into building.

I am contacting everyone I know that lives in either Tucson or Pima County to help get changes to the Pima County/Tucson City zoning codes. There is a petition circulating via the internet.

Here are a couple of links.

I dismantled the coop carefully, since I hoped the city would change the zoning codes. And there will be a public meeting in August on this issue.

The Tucson City Council is wanting to change the zoning to be more friendly to growing gardens, and keeping chickens. The opposition comes from a couple of "self appointed" neighborhood leaders, that obviously are against gardens and chicken keeping, that claim to represent everyone in the city. I am so hoping you will sign the petition and show your support for Urban Agriculture here in Tucson.

And share this information with anyone you think might be interested.

Good Saturday Morning rebbetzin,
You could also start another petition on the Care 2 petition site at http://www.care2.com/ there are several similar petitions on that site now receiving hundreds of signatures.

And I'm not sure if you saw this posting from yesterday, but it is a link to the 'actual minutes' of a city council meeting in California pertaining to a request for possessing Chickens;

In my opinion though, you should get signatures from everyone you can that live in your immediate area, a petition such as this will carry much more weight with your city council and or county commission. Title your signature pages with the word 'Request' or 'Public Request' instead of using the word 'petition', and people will be much more receptive and eager to sign.

Have a Blessed weekend,
