I haven't gotten too touchy on it because I'm scared to hurt it. What is it?? What can I do to help?? It's crying a lot!

It sucks. I've had a few hatch this way 🙁 I cull them. They can last couple days like that and I can't watch them suffer.

Really? A couple days?? I was trying to find how long they survive like this, I didn't expect it to be up to that long. I've never had to cull an animal before, that's been my fiancé's job. But he had to go out of town this weekend, so very bad timing.

That has been my experience. With the 1st one I had hatch to early. I thought it was ok after about a day in the incubator because the "what I thought was yoke" started to dry up. But the chick just wasn't fluffy and drying like the other. So on day two I moved it to the brooder still wasn't looking well and slow but cried alot. Also didn't eat and drink like a normal chick. So after lots of research I realized what happened. It's intestines dried up making it impossible for the baby to eat, drink and process the food. It was slowly starving to death and probably in pain. I culled it the morning of day 3 after realizing it was surely going to die. Poor thing was basically lifeless at that point. So after that one I don't hesitate and end the suffering. Everyone has their own way for culling chicks. I just use sharp bone scissors and quick snip.
