HELP chick hatched with a severely crooked beak!

i have to say what a cutie!!!! i wouldnt cull ti just yet.....give it a day....see what happnes but if u decide to cull it then take a pair of sharp scissors and cutthe head of or snap its neck

You can also get ether (starter fluid at an auto parts store) soak a rag with the fluid and put both the chick and the rag in something that closes tight, like a coffee can. The chick does not suffocate, it gets an overdose of anesthetic. So sorry you have to make a decision like this.

I would cull it with ether. That bird doesn't stand a chance of surviving. I have never seen such a dramatic case of crossbeak. Ether is one of the kindest methods of culling both to the patient and the administrator.

So sorry. Good luck.

That is sad. I have never seen anything like that. I would cull it now. We had some chicks that we had to cull. It broke my heart but they were sick and suffering so I had to get my husband to do it. I read about several ways and the quickest thing with no suffering was snapping the neck with garden shears. That sounds awful but after reading about some of the other ways it seemed a better and quicker choice. I cried the first time he had to do that and can't watch but with incubating and raising chicks I know it sometimes will have to be done. So sorry about this poor little guy!

The reason it is so hard for me to do it in, is because it has such a strong will to survive. First it actually made it out of the shell, that in its own amazes me. But it is very healthy and strong, has started using a water bottle to drink on its own, and I have noticed it pecking at the food (not 100% sure it is actually eating) But it is just a strong and vigorous as the rest of the chicks... but at the same time I feel bad if it is suffering in some way, or when I think about how it probably will have not quality of life.

I'm not giving it much hope, but if there is anything I can do to try to help it let me know, or if you think it would be the nicest to just cull it now...
my immediate thought was to cull it, but It has such a strong will... it only has one eye and a severely deformed beak and was still able to hatch I feel it needs the chance to survive.
is there anyway to "help" straighten the beak out, or will it be completely permanant?
Here is its pictures (it is a buckeye)
