HELP!! Chick hatching!

That purple spot is where I gently touched a qtip soaked with Olive oil. I got scared and stopped!:barnie

ok, I wont mist, and yes, I get it about the wet chill. I'll put a wet cloth in a little container, so it doesn't wet anything else, and put in near the egg, under the heat lamp. should I try the vegetable oil?

Ok, vegetable oil, same thing. The OUTSIDE membrane, right under the shell, does NOT change color with the oil. But the INSIDE membrane turns purple!

and I have the heating pad on, in a small box, a dishtowel over the heating pad, and three other suspect eggs that my daughter just brought in. The heat lamp is suspended about 2 feet above the box. Will that be too hot?

I don't know. I suspect that that's too cool. But I don't know your local temp, I don't know your airflow, I don't know your wattage of bulb. And even if I did know them, I wouldn't be experienced with them. Your best bet is a thermometer.

ok, I'm in Hawaii, so right now, at 832pm, the temp is 73 degrees. it wont get too much colder now. The eggs are in a shallow box, in my bedroom. Good airflow, but its next to my bed, so not a drafty area. I only have a thermometer to check for temps on a human!:fl
