HELP chicken doing weird motion with her chest and acting sick

oh dear, that would not be good. i am using a natural alternative called colloidal silver and it is anti bacterial and anti fungal. and i will continue to watch her poop. i am also concerned about a patch on the bottom of her “pendulum” that has no feathers

I believe @azygous know about CS too.
Bare spot is probably feathers rubbed off from her 'purse' rubbing on roost, ground, etc.

her crop is harder now is this good or bad?

Hello,

How is your hen doing? Did the crop clear up? I saw your post and had to respond because I had a 12 week old chicken who did the same thing you are describing and showing (the video) with the neck motion; our girl also was spitting up liquid and crumbles and because we were first time chicken keepers we thought it was impacted or sour crop too, but it wasn't. It turns out that Dottie had a tare in her crop which was causing the contents to leak out into her body. She was not able to get any food to her stomach but her crop and intestines were filled with grit. The specialist also said she had something like an ulcer in the crop but they were not sure what exactly it was. The vet said there was nothing more we could do for her because it was past the point of repair so with extreme sadness we had to put our sweet girl down.

This is all to say that because it may look like impacted or sour crop, that is not always the case, which we found out the hard way, so she really should be checked out by a vet. I know it is costly and not very convenient but it's most likely the only way to find out what's truly going on. I would also hate to have your sweet girl end up like our Dottie.

Please let us know if she is doing better

wow i am so sorry about your chicken that sounds so awful. she has never spit up liquid or crumbs but that very well could be what it is because i don’t think her crop is getting any smaller but her poop is now solid and she is more active. I don’t know if we can afford going to the vet right now but if her crop does not get smaller soon we might have to. how long did your chickens symptoms go on for?

That is good about the poop. Dottie always had watery droppings and so we thought that was normal for her since she had been doing that since we got her at 2 weeks old. We know now that it's not, but like I said, we were first time chicken keepers and we didn't know any better then.

We had noticed Dottie's crop getting bigger for a few days but it didn't really concern us until she had the weird neck motion and I'd say that was about 3 or 4 days after we noticed the large crop that wasn't getting any smaller. We felt it and it felt hard so we thought it was impacted. We first googled what to do about impacted crop and then isolated her in her own dog crate with only water and grit (that's what one website told us to do) hoping that would help move whatever was stuck in there through. But her crop remained large, she still had the motion and was still spitting up. She also looked tired and would sleep a lot. After a day of that I knew we had to take her in. Our first vet didn't know what was wrong with her so that's when we took her to a bird specialist about an hour away. They did blood work and x-rays and that's when they found the tare and all the rest. I really wish I would've taken her in sooner so she didn't suffer and maybe they could've fixed her problems. I'm not sure. I guess the whole time frame of the symptoms was about 4-5 days maybe 6 with the vet visits. The watery poo thought she had throughout her whole life.

I can't say for certain that your girl has what our Dottie had and I am not trying to frighten you but I do see this on the message board a lot and the go to answer is usually impacted or sour crop - which is quite common - but also I just wanted to point out it could be something worse like what our girl had. It's a good sign yours is not spitting up though and her poo is getting more solid. The tell tale signs of a sick chicken are moving away from the group, not eating or drinking, lethargy and tail/head pointed down. If she is doing any of that I would take her in right away.

Have you tried massaging the crop and giving her water and some plain yogurt? Our girls love yogurt and it the probiotics help aid digestion.

Whoops the is becoming a novel, keep us in the loop about your girl! I hope everything works out for her.
