Hi,
We have 5 wyondotte chickens. One chicken was broody so I threw some Guinea eggs under her and it worked!!!! A keet just hatched!

There are still 10 more guinea eggs under her.

We keep hens in 1 coop and Guinea’s in a separate coop. We also have a small Producers Pride Farm House chicken tractor. I actually had our 4 hens in the tractor today while our broody hen remained on the nest in the primary chicken coop.

What should I do with the newly hatched meet and chickens tonight?

Should I keep the baby keet with the broody hen tonight or separate it from the broody hen?

Should I worry about the keep eating the pine shavings if left in the coop. (We had keets die last summer until I moved them off pine shavings and onto paper towels and gave hydro hen).

Will the other chickens possibly attack the keet?

Should I leave the other 4 hens in the chicken tractor tonight?

Help!!! We are new at this!

From my understanding the broody will keep new hatch chick under her along with eggs she is trying to hatch. To avoid eating shavings or chips you may consider a different bedding for the hen. Someone else may be able to help out with some better instructions. I look forward to using broodies for hatching.

I have not hatched keets under a chicken hen, but do have guinea and have had many chick hatches. I prefer to leave my moms and chicks in the same space as my other chickens. I would expect you to be able to do the same with keets. (I know that ducks learn to follow chicken moms if hatched under a chicken hen)

Ok. Any concerns about the keet wandering from the nest box to get water/food, getting lost in the coop, and getting too cold?

The first picture is the primary chicken coop where the nest currently is located. 6x10.

The other two pics are the chicken tractor. It’s about 2x3 inside. I thought if I need to keep the keet away from the other hens, I could relocate the keet, broody hen, and eggs to the bottom floor area of the tractor and just keep the door to the outside caged locked shut.

You’re very concerned, so move mom, keet, and eggs to their own safe, secure enclosure. Place a chick-safe waterer and food in there near them. I do all of my brooding separate to avoid any potential problems. Many members leave them with the flock. Do what helps to alleviate your concerns. Good wishes for mom and her babies. 🥰
