HELP.. chicken is skin and bones

She could have a cancer . Or a reproductive issue. When was the last time you saw an egg from her? Or have you seen abnormalities like lash eggs? Unfortunately it does not sound good for your hen with those symptoms and no amount of vet care will likely help unfortunately.

If it’s worms you might be able to turn her around. Use a broad spectrum like safegaurd or valbazen. Southern California is so dry though ... I don’t know how big of a worm load she could get...?

You might try to hand feed her. I've had to do that with a few. Wrap her in a towel making sure it confines her feet and legs with her head and neck free to eat. Put a small amount of feed mixed with water or milk to make a soft mash. Put her in your lap and start with a little in your hand and get it on her beek. At first she won't eat much and it takes patience but usually they will slowly start eating without coaxing. Because if the runny poop I think it may be worms. Good luck and keep us posted.

She hasn't laid in a while but she's going through a molt. Hopefully almost done... a lot of her feathers have come back so I don't think that is helping her :hmm

Her crop felt full when I checked tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to record the inside of the run with my camera and see if I can catch her eating. She ate a little bit of tuna from my hand.

I'm almost wondering if she just had diarrhea for a long time and no nutrients were getting in. I just haven't checked her as much as I would because I didn't want to touch her when she was molting.

Try different foods, colorful ones it may be more appealing to them. Chickens need tons of protein and carbs when molting so try oats, eggs, veggies and any light protein like turkey or chicken. Not beef though it's pretty heavy on the stomach. Best of luck keep us updated. Be sure to always offer water and just out of curiosity has she been laying? Hang in there! Show her lots of love! :hugs

Thanks @pasuit

Some of my friends roll their eyes when I talk about my chickens but you are right they are my pets and they are just as high on the list of love and concern as dogs/cats/humans etc. Honestly did not think having chickens wouldn't be so hard to take care of but it is what it is. I don't know what I would do without them. I want more and my friends say why do you need so many eggs and I tell them... it's not for the eggs, it's because chickens are do darn cute. The eggs are a plus!

@WildCHILD400 - no eggs. Did check to make sure she wasn't egg bound but nothing back there.

Molting will give diarrhea. But an illness can bring on molting as well. An illness that’s been latent will pop up and exacerbate during a molt. Because the immune system is down. Chickens often feel crummy their first molt. It will be very important to give her high protein feed. Clean water every day. Feather making is a stressful use of protein and water. No treats (scratch) . Feed, tuna fish, scrambled eggs. Probiotics in the water to help reduce stress. How old is she? Has she molted before?
