HELP.. chicken is skin and bones

Dusting is a good sign.

You may not see worms in the poop. Most hang in the digestive tract and let go when they get their medicine in which then they may process through the gizzard. Which gives you a less than satis factory feeling that you’ve “got-’em.” That float test looks for eggs in the poop. So that’s why I suggested it . It can determine if you need to or not especially while she’s molting.

Regretfully I had to euthanize her. she was in obvious distress and pain from seizures. This is the first hen I've had to put down in my life and Im still crying. I feel so bad. Rip my feathered angle. You are at peace now.

So what's the deal with barred rocks in the past couple days. What are the odds our birds came from the same place? If feel like it's a strange coincidence

So sorry for the loss of your chicken. I was also wondering the same thing about if the barred rocks came from the same place. But then I noticed the original poster is from California, I think. I am from Southern New Jersey. I purchased my chickens as day old chickens from a local feed store. But unfortunately, I do not know where they get their chicks from. I can try calling them tomorrow to ask if they use one in particular or multiple hatcheries.

I got mine from Dare2Dreams farms which is a farm in Lompoc, Ca. They are a small family farm and I went and picked her up myself. I caught my girl eating and she seems to be better but she is still skin and bones (but only 2nd day). I made the water and feed mixture and she seems to eat that quite a bit. I am hoping like someone posted, the diarrhea is from the molting and it was my fault(not getting more protein feed.) I thought she would be ok because the other girls did fine. I will know in a couple more days if she gains weight.
Haven't done a float test and as the vet told me it was quite expensive (charging exotic animal fee on top of regular fee.... sucks)

Sorry for your loss @2jzkilla

Hope your girl is doing good @MLG1900

My girls free range but just in case they don't get anything from the ground I also throw grit around the areas they hang out in. They have sand in their coop with grit in it as well so if all that extra work, hopefully all of them are picking up grit. But I am up for suggestions if you think I need to do anything else

Thanks Bogtown for thinking of me!! That's why I love this community, always thinking of each other.

I watched Pepper (my barred rock) from work eating the water and layer mix and I almost cried. I feel horrible that I failed her so I was excited to see her eating. I feel bad for her because she is the one when she was less than a week old a hawk took off with her but luckily dropped her (hawk was about to be attacked by crows so dropped Pepper to defend itself) She was just off to an awful start, overcame the PTSD from the hawk and now this.

Luckily it doesn't snow here because I would probably be a wreak. Lol I don't like snow....
