Help chickens has wound from other chickens pecking at her head

Help please....one of my chickens head was pecked away by the other girls. large bloody cut behind her comb, she is very limp, not moving. We have her in house right now but need to know what household items we can use to help her as stores are closed. the wound is about the size of a quarter. Worried she wont make it. gonna try to feed her right now while I wait for you nice folks to respond. Thanks Please give us advise, first wounded chicken.

you need to clean it with saline or some warm salty water, then put betadine or neosporin on it. She should be fine. Let us know how she's doing. You did the right thing by bringing her in, keep her away from the others till she heals...don't worry to much about her eating tonight. But try to get her to drink water. If she won't drink try dribbling onto her beak. If you have plain yogurt or scrambled egg that might get her to eat if she won't other wise. All the best.

Thank you for responding! can I use table salt? or sea salt? My daughter is picking up some iodine so I can make a solution of that and water. Put peroxide on it but afraid of getting it in her eyes. She will only open one eye once in a while, stand for a bit, then lay back down. We can see her scalp or skull. And yes we are giving her water through a dropper as she wont drink on her own. I will try some yogurt, might have to be flavored as I have no plain, and we have plenty of eggs lol. I think I will wait till morning on trying food again. We have her in our warmest room right now, but it gets pretty warm with the wood stove, so we made a small box up for her with hay in one of the cooler rooms. Any other suggestions let me know. Thanks for caring.

I hope you are right that she will be okay. If she is okay it will be interesting when she has to go back out to the cold, we will do a slow transfer and first put her on our porch that has 1/2 walls which will keep the wind out. or maybe our garage.

How is your hen this morning? table salt is fine but I am sure you've already done that. It's amazing how quickly they can heal just keep her safe from the others and your doing everything right. Let us know how she is doing.

Mine had an injury like that. We kept her in at night (I had a cage) and out in a kennel away from the others during the day. (They visited through the chain link.) I thought she would die, but she healed up quickly. Fingers crossed for yours, too.
