Hi guys!!
I really need some help, my chickens have got lice, really, really bad!!!!
I have know for a while that my chickens have lice and I have been trying to over come it but over the last few weeks its got really bad. I have 21 chickens, (3 with are only about 11/12 weeks old so I'm try to keep them away from all my other chooks so that they don't get lice as well) and the one in the worst state are really pooy in the vent area and have diarrhoea!
I have been putting the lice powder stuff o n them every so weeks and a while ago I put charcoal from our fireplace in where they dust bathe, yesterday I refreshed their hay for where they lay eggs and I thinks that's all I've done.

if anyone has any ideas to help my chooks that would be Great!!

Have you tried Sevin dust? I used it and I am lice free. It comes in a red bottle and you can pick it up in the garden section of stores like Walmart and Tractor supply. It's called Sevin 5% garden dust. Make a powder puff by cutting off the leg of some pantyhose, put the Sevin in, and use the powder puff to thoroughly dust your birds. The same day, clean out and dust your coop. Repeat again 10 days later to kill the new lice that will have hatched from the eggs.

Why is that? the seven i use has insecticide made from from flowers called chrysanthemums , it is called pyrethrum, i have used it on all my animals and never had one get sick from it. Marigold are great for keeping bugs out of the garden.

I can't seem to get over its safe to use an insecticide like Sevin on the birds??

Trust me....if you ever have birds that need a cure from vermin...you will be glad you have 5% sevin dust on your side. I've been raising poultry since 1973 and I recommend it as your best friend.

During the summer months, simply add some to their favorite dusting holes for a hands off method that actually works.... go ahead and go with your option....birds die from vermin on them and also suffer magnitudes in the meantime...I always look out for the best interest of my flock.

If the veterans such as yourself say its OK and it works, then I trust you. I'm new at this and originally wouldn't think you could use Sevin on chickens.
