I have several two day old chicks that one of my hens attacked. The hen was broody, and has accepted "grafted" chicks before. I offered them to her tonight and she seemed to settle. I left her alone for only one hour, and when I came back, it was a mess. All but one of the chicks were out from underneath her, and many have serious injuries. I am doing my best, but I am not sure they will survive.
Any advice would be appreciated!!
The worst injury is a chick that might be in shock. It's leg appears to be dislocated, and it won't move around much. Another chick (picture to follow: WARNING!!! Graphic!!) had it's wing completely ripped off. It is GONE, thankfully the wound does not seem to be bleeding now. The chick is active and almost normal, just a little distress peeping. I made a "sick bay" for the injured chicks, but this one wouldn't sit still to stay inside it. It's running around and pecking at things. Lastly, I have a chick with an obvious leg fracture (pic also to follow). The leg is crooked, the toes swollen. The chick seems upset and in pain.
I have mixed a tiny, tiny amount of aspirin into their water and gave each some, but I have no ideas what else to do.
Please advise!!
