We started with very young chicks (a couple of weeks old), and as a first time chicken-raiser, I am so glad we went that way! After reading everything on here after the fact, it seems that hatching your own eggs is rather daunting. lol And with so many things to learn with raising a flock, I am not sure I could have dealt with that, too. While I do want to hatch my own in the future, I wouldn't recommend doing that at first. That's just my opinion, though.
