I have a 14wk farmyard mix pullet (Jemimah) who started acting off the past few days. She is frequently standing hunched with her neck tucked in and eyes closed, but she will still move around and forage some. Overall lower energy than normal. I have isolated her and will update tomorrow morning when I can examine her poop & crop.

She is not showing respiratory symptoms (no sneezing, no wheezing, no discharge).

Does this sound like early coccidiosis, or something else I should be looking for? At what point would you start Corid?

Jemimah today:

Sounds like a classic case of ADR. ADR? A classic medical phenomenon, I once toured a mostly horse hospital where each of the patients had a tentative diagnosis of ADR, what was this new pandemic? ADR stands for ‘Ain’t doin’ right,’ basically lethargy, decreased food and water intake, mopey, obvious physical signs of discomfort, withdrawal from company. It is a first sign of illness, but you can’t diagnose what without more specific symptoms, could it be coccidia, yes, it could also be a thousand other things. What can you do? Access to fresh water and good feed, keep her at a comfortable temp, keep away from bullies, deworm, consider a broad spectrum antibiotic, basically good nursing care until you have more idea what is going on. Corid May treat coccidia but it may also decrease water intake and do nothing for the actual problem.

95% of the chickens that stands hunched like that is affected by coccidiosis. No need to make confused (and confusing) assumptions, or considering random antibiotics.
Treat for coccidiosis first, if the bird does not improve in 48 hours, then consider random antibiotics.

Coccidiosis left untreated is often fatal. This is why it's important to treat coccidiosis ASAP. Waiting kills. Corid first, thoughts are for later.
Also ADR in chickens is never a "first sign of illness", chickens are prey animals and prey animals always show symptoms when the disease is an advanced stage.

Thank you all for the advice - I will start her on Corid today if you still think it is necessary. Let me know!
Update from this morning: I checked her crop before she ate and it felt flat to me, although I don't really know what "full" feels like. She was standing normal when I went in there (remember she is isolated right now). Her poop was totally normal. I didn't wait to see if she ate, I had to go right inside after giving her a bowl of food.
