My daughter and I built a homemade incubator. It has been working great for over 2 weeks (started on April 1st). We candled them last night and the chicks have developed to the point that light is not passing through the eggs anymore. This morning we discovered that the light bulb went out over night and the incubator dropped to 80 degrees F. Will the chicks survive this temperature drop?

Yep, I have had that happen twice now in my home made incubator and both hatches turned out fine, they just took an extra day or 2 to hatch. For some reason my bulb only blows when everybody in the house is asleep

But both times it got down to 80 degrees.

Good Luck!

Maybe in future you could have two bulbs in there. That way if one blows, there's still one on. I only figured that trick out after the bulb in my brooder blew one night and I woke up to four shivering chicks on a freezing morning in January! They were all fine btw but after that I rigged up two bulbs to be on the safe side...
