So, I went out tonight to close up the chickens and when I came in my precious 2 year old had 2 of my bator eggs in her hands!!!! She has never messed with them before! One of the eggs was slightly cracked. I didn't think the membrane was torn, but I had a very small amount of sticky stuff on my hand after I put in back in the bator. I recandled it a little later. I am on day 7. The embryo is still alive and moving around. What do I do now?

I'd leave it and check again in a day or two. But I've never done this before, so that's probably wrong

If you have a candle, melt a little wax to cover the crack. If you don't have a candle, use a crayon or a piece of tape.

I had an egg that was cracked from top to bottom. I found it in the coop that way.
I sealed the crack with melted wax before setting it. It was still alive when I candled 2 days ago. It's due to hatch on Thursday.
The wax keeps the egg from losing moisture too quickly.

I too have had to mend with wax in the past, but I got a healthy chick out of it, if you have it I think non scented is better to use.

Here's mine.

Some times you can patch an egg. But as cold as this may sound and anyone that has had an egg explode in the bator will tell you. It is much better to cull the egg. If the egg goes bad it will start to smell, when that happens, GET THE EGG OUT OF THE BATOR FAST. It takes days to clean the bator and longer for the smell to leave.
