Hi,

I have one Silver Laced Wyandotte chick (The egg was much slimmer then the rest) which hatched today, Its neck was completely upside down and the chick was unable to straighten it up or walk

It has been just under 10 hours since hatching, the chick has now started to walk and its neck is much better than it was but still very crooked.

Is there anything i can do to help this chick with its crooked neck? I do not see how it would be able to eat or drink if it was to stay this way

Attached are images (best i could take at the moment)

My first guess would have to be wry neck, caused be deficiency by vitamin E. Your hen or wherever you got her didn't have enough vitamins. You can easily get vitamin E supplements in the feed store, TSC. You will need to feed and water it, make sure it doesn't get dehydrated, I do not know the exact amount you're suppose to give a chick of the vitamin E supplement because I've never experienced it but I'm sure someone could help you their.

I think the chick would still be absorbing the yolk so I don't see a need for food and water just yet, though like I said, I am not experienced with this.

Thank you for your advice, i will definitely look into Vitamin E Supplements, Hoping someone on here would be able to advise me on exactly how much to administer

If you can get Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell vitamins from your local feed store, those have electrolytes and vitamins. Give a drop twice a day. It has vitamin E, B1 thiamine, and selenium, all good for wry neck (torticolis, crook neck.) Hopefully, the chick will be better in a few days. Make sure it is getting plenty of water and food, or you may need to offer it wet feed

Thank you, i will definitely look into purchasing those.

How do i feed the chick? Dilute water with the starter feed and syringe feed it? & how often do i need to feed and provide water to the chick?

If the chick can dip it's beak into a little wet feed, that is the safest, but if need be place just a tiny dot up to the beak. A QTip might work well. Once it can walk around and peck, place some dry crumbles on some paper towel around it’s feet.
