Noticed my 8wkold Ameracauna eye looked a little suspicious last week. One of my other hens had some mosquito bites around her eye and I assumed it was just that and didn't worry too much. Now, it's looking much more serious. Here is a picture of her eye on Saturday:
And here she is today:
Her other eye looks completely fine as does the rest of my flock:
I've been cleaning it with warm water, coconut oil, and aloe vera. It won't open at all today and she's being much more vocal about my messing with it. I've got the whole flock on Duramycin-10 and have been treating her eye with nfz-puffer, which is what both my local (and backyard chicken friendly) feed stores advised. I'm not sure if the puffer will even help if her eye won't open though.
Otherwise she's acting fine. Eating and drinking plenty on her own. Moving around and playful. She might be moving a little bit slower but I'm hoping its just because she can't see out of one eye and its HOT here in Houston.
I'm very new to raising chickens so I'm not sure what to do. The guys at the feed store really didn't seem very worried about her condition, especially since she's eating and acting normal.
I've been scouring the forums but having a hard time figuring this out. Her eye isn't bubbly, just crusty. Her breathing sounds fine to me. She doesn't smell bad. She isn't acting lethargic or sick. Any thoughts?!?
Thank you SO much for any ideas or help or thoughts!
