Help! Day 17 & I heard a chick peeping!

Well from the looks of that picture, it doesn't look like its hatching correctly. They are supposed to make a line and propel themselves around the air sell of the egg and then push themselves out. It looks like this egg that is hatching early may have had a detached air sell and is hatching early due to the lack of oxygen. When this egg pushes out, it probably has not have soaked up all its yolk yet and may need more time to incubate. If so, you will see it bleeding some, but just calmly keep it in the egg side that it's attached too, wrap it in a warm damp towel carefully, and place it back in the incubator, regularly check on it to see when it is done soaking up the rest of the yolk, and most importantly make sure it's umbilical cord is still attached to it. I'm not sure if this can be correct, but this is what I have learned from reasearch when hatching eggs. I hope his helps, and oh if at is the case you shouldn't get worried, because that can just make things worse, just stay calm and cool and everything should be alright. :D

Making good progress, my chicks hatched a day early last time and the first pip was on day 19. I have reader about chicks hatching earlier without any negative effects. Are you hearing chirping? Mine would chirp before they pipped the shell.

Mine did the same thing! They hatched a day early, but not as early as day 17. Mine chirp to, and something would be wrong with the chick if they weren't chirping. (Always listen for chirping on a piped egg) I just love to hear them tho inside the egg! It's such a neat experience! :jumpy

Should I keep it in there for 3 days? I know your supposed to have at least 3 together so they don't get lonely. I'm scared the other 4 aren't going to hatch until 21 days.

Is this the yolk? Sorry like I said this is my first time doing this! But I read on another post he gave his food & water asap because it didn't take all the yolk?

No, you never want to leave it in their that long, once the preemies start to hatch, they will absorb their yolk that they haven't in I'm guessing 6 hours fully. And yes it does look like the chick didn't quite absorb all the yolk, but from the looks of the picture it looks like it will be just fine. Also newly hatched chicks can last 3 days without food or water, because they absorbed the rest of their yolk sack. It might have hatched early and be just fine for two reasons. One it had a detached air cell, and two because it probably formed a day or two before you put it in the incubator. And that's perfectly fine, I enjoy helping others with chicken stuff. :p I'm kind of obsessed with chickens. ;) but it looks like a healthy chick to me it should be fine without the others, but it is always good to have more than one chick. You should take the chick out of the incubator once it's all fluffy and place it in the brooder. What breed is it do you know? It's so cute! I'm planning on putting a batch in my incubator in about a week or so. I can't wait to have baby's again! :celebrate

It looks like it was absorbed, it looks like uncooked egg yolk if it isn't absorbed. I don't see yolk in the picture. I would leave the chick for a day or so or at least until fluffy.

Ok. It's still a not fluffed. Thank you all so much! I have to idea. I had a mix of chickens I'm thinking it probably be more of my speckled Sussex & my barred rock. my speckled Sussex is such a pretty rooster
