Help designing PVC feeder???

I have found designs for PVC with an opening that is large... My hubby was thinking of making large holes instead of one large opening, so it would function like the smaller chick feeders. Has anyone built one like that?
It would have a pipe going up, into a large pipe going horizontal with one inch or larger holes so they can just get their heads in there to hopefully prevent waste and contamination. And it would be held up off the floor with a chain to raise as they grow.
Any thoughts?

I made a pvc feeder using plans for a deer feeder. 3 inch pvc pipe, cap, piece of wood and a 12 inch drip pan for a planter. The way my birds eat, there is not that much waste and I can raise it as they grow. There is a picture of it on my page.
