Texas Hill Country!
i just de-spurd my roo and one wont stop bleeding i used cornstarch but it wont stop. it is bleeding from the tip it bleeding pretty bad not sure how to make it stop its been like 20 min!

septic powder and keep compressing it as long as possible. sometimes it takes awhile. i had a peacock with a broken toenail that I could not get stopped.

There is a product called Blood Stop...Its almost the same thing as gun powder. An old farmer taught me this when I had a mare get caught in barbed wire and cut her fetloc really bad. Blood everywhere! The gun powder worked. So will lambs tongue leaves.

CAuterizing will to but its a rather severe method.

Just don't smoke while you are doing this.

use alum, cornstarch, or whatever you have but you'll probably have to keep constant pressure (firm but not HARD) on it for about 10 min. you have to give the platelets time to start clumping. Don't let off the pressure every minute or two to "ckeck" it, either. firm hold w/ alum, cornstarch, flour, etc. should do it.

ok so I wrapped it with vet wrap and some steri-strips I think it may still be bleeding some but hopefully has slowed down. I just don't understand why it bled so badly!? Is it because he is a young rooster? he just turned a year but his spurs where sharp and he had started attacking people. I figured if I de-spurd him at least he wouldn't be able to hurt anyone (me!) to badly. any ideas?

What method did you do? Have you done this before? That would help us figure out why you had so much bleeding. I use the hot potato method when I wanted to despur in the past. No bleeding at all.
