Could handy men and women out there please comment on my run idea? If I make three separate frames of wood lined with hardware cloth, could I attach them to each other -- and the coop -- using latches like this?
My coop is small so with detachable panels the whole unit would be portable. To keep the panels from collapsing in or out, I could simply brace them with ... um... something tall, portable, yet heavy???

My yard is predator-free. I just have to keep my own dogs out of the run. Wood and hardware cloth has worked fine.

My question is really about whether or not these types of latches are appropriate for attaching run panels to the coop. I am already using the wood/hardware fabric setup for the run that is under the coop. My dogs are fine with the chickens. The birds do not free range. I will not be buying a dog kennel at this time because I want to use existing materials to stick to our tight budget.

Do you have the pannels already??
If so, pictures would help us to see exactly what you plan is.

I'm not at home now. These are not my panels, but my plan is the same as these.

Could I attach panels like these, roughly 3' tall and 7.5' long to the coop and each other with barrel bolts so they are detachable? They are made with 1x2 lumber and hardware fabric.

I'm not understanding how the bolt latches would attach the corners?
There is a type of 'hinge' that is used for livestock gates. It's a hook-shaped 'pin' that fits into a 'ring'. If you put something like those at the top and bottom of each pannel, all you'd have to do to get them apart would be to lift the 'pin' out of the 'ring'.
These are a little heavy duty, but I'm sure you could find lighter weight versions.

Corners? LOL I'm not even thinking about the corners yet.

Thanks for your idea. That should work well on the corners on the end piece. For the straights, I'm just going to try the bolt latches and see what happens.

What I am using and have recommended before is common door hinges (see the pic). They can mount using screws just like your latches but allow for a pivot of a wall and can be used on making corners as well. To "un"hook them you simply remove the hinge pin.

How about using hasps and staples with trigger clips on the staples. they will also work to hinge round the corners and would be easy to unlatch.
