Help, Dh wants to start my turkey coop....I need a design.

When my Dh asked what I wanted for my B-day I told him a turkey house. He just rolled his eyes wanted to know when they were coming and said OK! The trouble is, I can't find any photos or plans? Any suggestions of what to do, not do would be great!!

How many turkeys are you getting is one question. For our turkeys here they don't use a house period except to lay in, they roost outside in all weather. The only time we force them to go in the house is during hurricaines and tropical storms - and I'm here to tell you they don't like it. lol Last year we built a range roost and that seems to work well, (I'll get pics this weekend) Basiclly it's a just a roof over roosts and I put 4 nest boxes in the back.

Hopefully somebody in a colder climate will chime in.

We have 3 poults, 2 BB bronze and 1 white, will they be able to roost? I know our Cornish X meat chickens can't. ( I really wanted BR) Being up in her in the Great Lake state we get some rotten weater (just saw the low for Saturday 29 !!! What, someone needs to tell mother nature that tomatoes don't like it that cold)

If they are Broad Breasted forget the roost, and you don't need much shelter other than a place for them to get out of the rain - the BB's aren't very long lived turkeys. The are the cornish cross of turkeys. If you want to keep and breed them you want a heritage turkey

Thanks Steve for all your help, I think I can come up with something now. Hopefully next time I'll be able to find some Bourbon Reds!
