My one yr old Austra White hen started limping a few wks ago. I can't find anything wrong with her left foot except swelling between the toes. No signs of bumble foot on the bottom or the top. I have dealt with bumble foot with other chickens but she doesn't look like she has it. But, I decided to make a cut into the swollen area thinking maybe there was puss of something. It was horrible, blood started spurting out so I stopped and we bandaged her foot. She actually seemed to not favor it as much after that but has started limping a little more again. I removed the bandage and it looks the same. Other than that, she is laying every day and seems perfectly healthy. Anyone have any ideas? I have been spraying Vetericyn on her foot but don't think it's doing anything. The little mark on the right side in the pic is where I started surgery.

The swelling does look a bit like the bumblefoot I have seen on the top of the foot between toes. Usually, there is a scab on the bottom as well. Does she have any swelling in her hock joint? I would probably just soak her foot in some warm Epsom salts water once daily for a few days, and limit her activity if it is an injury. Here is a link that shows bumblefoot between the toes, but it is much more obvious:

I guess I'll just keep soaking for now. I cannot find a bumble anywhere on her foot. I guess gout is a possibility though she eats what everyone else does and none of them are having problems.
