Help, Dizzy, Going In Cicrles...

Ok, We Just Traded Some Chickens For A Few Turkeys..

The Problem Is An Adult Gobbler, Keeps Going In Left Circles... Big Circles Then Small , Then He Falls Down ... He Does Not Seem To Be Blind, He Is Not Running Into Things????.. Where We Got Him , They Were In A Small Building Maybe 8 X 10.. 10 Foot Roof...

We Have Wormed Him And His Mate , The Female Has No Symptoms...has Anyone Heard Of This And How Can I Help Him....

Help , I Feel So Bad For Him...

Hi , I can't answer the question but I also have a 4 weeek old turkey that is doing the same thing no one else is effected. When we got her she was fine then after 1 week she started doinng this so I isolated her and gave antibiotics and she got better after another week I put her back with the flock then a week later she started again, she is slowly getting better but I would love to know what this is and how to better treat her. Ironically when we got her my daughters named her London.

How long has your turkey been doing this? Have you isolated him? Does anything look like there is something wrong with his neck? Is he eating and drinking? Did he start this after you wormed him or was he doing this before you wormed him? What did you worm him with and what dosage did you give him?

Can you post a pic of him?

Re: Turkey Walking in Circles??Neurological problem or toxin....sometimes vitamin deficiency can also cause this, but that's less likely if they're on a good turkey/gamebird feed.

Check the pen for moldy food or if free ranged, anything they could get into? Get it cleaned up asap. For toxin, it may be too late, but you could try a flush of her system. Some use epson and others molasses. I'll see if I can find the mixture for you.

Neurological can usually be seen if she is holding the tail funny. Does the tail just hang down? I had a young turkey doing this very behavior and found it had a broken spine and had to be put down. A red tailed hawk flew over the flight pen and scared them and they piled on top of each other - this little one was on the bottom and I knew she looked funny when she got up, but I thought it was still fear and disoriented. After a couple days and when the running in circles started, I knew there was damage. Upon holding her I could feel the lower spine was broken.

Examine the surroundings and the bird closely and let me know if you find anything else that may help us figure out what's going on.

hey there I noticed this thread and am having a hen with a similar prob - she is walking in circles with her neck low and off to one side - gave her sava-chick and some antibiotics but any other tips would be great - any ideas? thanks!
