or the end result of rubbing on wire or even a bad sinus infection. It looks like I can see rub marks, do you see them trying to get out of a run very often or do you have wire in your coop?

That's gotta be it. For that to be pecking that 'top of the coop' gotta have a titanium beak. When my roosters get into fights they are never ever able to dent the other rooster's beak

Yeah, that hardware cloth is just like a file, a really good file at that. It can do that sort of damage pretty quick if a bird is really pushing to get out. It is good at keeping stuff out but it can be nasty, you see poor Fred and his lady were about to lose their beaks and they probably wern't pushing very long at all.
