Figures one of mine would be a problem.

12 Hours at this point. Did it give up?

I checked it out more throughly. I noticed there was yoke around its original pip area, and it must have turned and tried a different area and broke through. It is a big chick, and was the largest of all my original eggs. It didn’t react to any of my inspection. Eyes still closed and I saw red blood still in the membrane. It is still in the incubator and we will just wait it out now

Most of the time if the chick has zipped half way around the egg it is safe to pop the top off and make sure it hasn't stuck to the shell so it can kick out. But the late hatches and the ones that struggle can have other problems that will insure that your actions will probably kill it. It is an art of knowing when and how to react if need be. Kudos to you for reading the threads to educate yourself. I hope your chick made it.

No movement since yesterday afternoon. I can’t help but feel like he was positioned badly in the eggs. Somehow, his wing looked like it was over his face. I’m amazed he was able to pip at all. He’s in the incubator still, the other chicks are out, but I don’t have any hope at this point. Whatever happened was early in the hatching process, before I even cracked the incubator open. The other two look happy and healthy. My only challenge at the moment is just trying to get them to get away from the heater to get to eat or drink something, but I know that can take a day or two.

The normal position is for the head to be tucked under the wing. Zipping is a short process and normally only takes a couple of hours, sometimes only a few minutes. If they stop for more than a couple of hours they are probably stuck.
