So sorry for your loss. I live out in the country here in SC & my neighbor & I have livestock, so our policy is; any stray dogs get gone, as they WILL destroy anthing they can get ahold of. As has been stated before, a loose dog is a preditor & my neighbor has lost all of his hens before to stray dogs breaking into his chicken pen & distroying his whole flock. He destroyed all the dogs (he caught them in the pen) & took them back to their owner & gave the owner a bill for replacement of his hens, plus the loss of all the eggs. I do free range my girls during the day, but they are under constant supervision by me & my 16 gauge & 7mm-08.
