We have three rouen ducks (one male, two females) that are about a year old. We keep them in an enclosed run where we have not changed any material or environment recently. We noticed one of the females started acting strange today. She is standing up, but she is resting her head on the ground. Also she seems to have thinned out and lost weight. From what we can tell, she is not egg bound. She is very lethargic. If we approach her, she stands up for a minute, but once she realizes there is no threat, she lowers her head again. Also noticed that her feathers are nappy. We have separated her out for now until we can figure out what's going on. She has food and water in her separate enclosure.

Any ideas of whats going on and what we can do to help???

I will see if I can get a picture posted.

She may have egg yolk peritonitis or other serious infection. I would get her to a vet a.s.a.p.

They can hide illness until it is nearly too late, sometimes too late.

If a vet is not possible, I would look into antibiotics immediately.

She also may have ingested something toxic, in which case food grade activated charcoal might help, but again a vet might be able to do some testing to know which is which.

She could also have some kind of parasite.
