Help-duckling deteriorating fast!

Its a day old, i've tried giving it sugar water but it won't swallow and i don't want to drown it. It was fine a few hours ago, completely normal, now it lies with it's head flopped on its side and hardly moves. It sometimes lifts its head or moves around a little but when it's awake it cheaps constantly.
I realise that sometimes they just fade away like this, but is there anything else i can do?

Do you have it in the incubator or under a brooder, and how many others do you have that are doing fine? Is this the only one? They do rest for the first day, when you disturb it does it perk up or just lay there still?

I'm afraid the duckling died within a couple of hours of me posting this thread. He wa in the brooder after being in the incubator for 24 hours. For the first few hours he was fine then he just went downhill! I had another 3, 2 are fine but the third has a problem with the muscles in his neck i think.
