Appears as though 2 eggs weren't going to hatch. 2 days later Mom is busy with her 6 babies and not sitting on last 2 eggs much so I put them in the incubator. After 1 day (that's 3 total) made a little hole in eggs air pocket and the membrane was separating from the egg. All dried out so made a little hole in it too. Then when treating with coconut oil it started to bleed. So I put egg back in incubator. 24 hours later membrane and blood sticking to chick. Cleaned off but looks like yolks not all the way dissolved that was 12 hours ago. How can 2 eggs be so far behind the rest? I plan on checking and maybe if needed try again to free chick in another 12 or so hours. I wouldn't have been so quick to do so but their brothers and sisters are 4 days old.... Can I get confirmation that I am on the right path or correction if not. I feel sick that I may have screwed up and making these babies suffer due to ignorance but equally fearful of doing nothing if they need help.

You were just doing all you could to help, don't you feel bad. You have the chicks best interest and thats all that matters :). I'd say leave them alone for now, poking a little hole was a good idea but it might just be time to let nature take its course. Leave them in the incubator with high humidity (whatever settings your supposed to use for lockdown) and see what happens. Sorry this has been stressful, I understand :( wishing you guys luck :hugs

Sometimes if the hen has too many eggs, a few will be on the outskirts, and maybe colder, which often does halt, and prolong the incubation period. If she has an open nest, other ducks may have laid eggs later during the incubation. There are several factors.

If you could pst a few pictures of the egg, that would be good, but at this point, you want to make sure the ducking is getting air, the membrane is moist, and the humidity in the incubator is around 75%. Once the veins dry up, the yolk sac disappears, and the duckling looks like it's trying to get out of the egg, you may break some of the shell off, so it's easier for her to get out.

Her name is Harley (welsh harlequin of course) and she and Feorge are my only 2 ducks so no one else is laying eggs in the nest. There were 4 other eggs that didn't make it and temperatures definitely could have something to do with it but we did put a heat lamp in when it got real cold. Here is chick in egg. As of tonight they are both still kicking and t

hey do a lot of peeping!

They didn't make it. I learned a few things as upsetting as it was. Thanks everyone so much. This site has been so informative don't think we would have done nearly as well as we have without it.
