So our tamest and prettiest purple chick, Sawchipper (named by a 3 yo, I'm not that creative since my name suggestion was Blacky) is maybe starting to look like a rooster after 7 weeks (?). She/he was the smallest and took the longest to grow feathers; however, Sawchipper made two non-cheep like cries this morning after jumping out of the temp coop (which made me start looking a bit closer). If a roo crow is errrrrr-eh-err-eh-errrr, this cry was just errrrrrrrr-eh. Ha. If that even helps.
Even though she/he is any Easter Egger, she/he looks more like a black ameraucana and I know all three rows of comb can be red and prominent (with the middle one being the most prominent) in pullets for that breed.
Does anyone know what else to look for at this age? If you need other photos please let me know. I'm in a pretty strict "no roosters" area and want to start advertising to the local small farms on Craigslist pre crowing.
Thanks!
